Intellectual Dancer's Newsletter #011
My current state of mind:
During the end of June and beginning of July, I had some road trip travel to Houston and Dallas with a little bit of dancing. Things are starting to become "normal" with events and dance classes.
During my trip to Houston, I did a skill trade with an awesome former competitive ballroom dancer, Taylor Kinney. It was pretty awesome to see the level of detail used to break down different parts of the body and movement. There was an interesting parallel I noticed in that we both took time to dispel common misconceptions about kizomba and ballroom.
It was encouraging and enlightening to cross-train in the methodology of the two dances and compare and contrast the similarities and differences. One of the things Taylor shared with me was the idea of the number pad (a 3 X 3 layout with numbers 1 through 9) on the bottom of your foot that is used to explain how to make contact, shift weight, and/or step off of your foot! I’ll try to create a diagram to illustrate this because it’s pretty cool.

I'll be attending Future Zouk in Chicago the first weekend of August and I'll be teaching some urbankiz workshops the weekend after also in Chicago, so stay tuned for when that event goes live! I'll be available for privates in Chicago from 8/6 - 8/15.
I'm also planning on some urbankiz workshops in Phoenix, AZ in October.
Question of the week:
What are the potential solutions to the reasons you have noticed people have given up on their dance journey?
