075: It's Time For A Professional Dance Association
In this episode, my guest Laura Riva comes back to talk about her latest initiative to start an international professional social dance association that can provide training and education for dance professionals to uphold a standard of values to create safer spaces for the international dance community.
Sponsors:
- Online Kizomba lessons at Learntokiz.com!
- The Super Bowl of Urban Kiz Festivals in North America, The Neo Kizomba Festival!
Intro Song:
- Niteke – Maua Sama
Key Points:
- Laura is in the beginning phases of creating a professional dance association in order to create and uphold a standard of professionalism across many areas, especially as sexual misconduct.
- There is very little accreditation, if any, in order to become a "professional" in the dance scene and this leaves many instructors, DJs, performers, and event organizers very ill equipped to handle more serious professional matters.
- It is important for the association to have as much of a global reach as possible and for it to span across multiple partner dances.
